And who knew? Jimmy Carter was a Honda rider!
His Nobel Prize and Presidential desk
From Plains, we headed for Kinnesaw, GA to see the Kinnesaw Mountain National Battllefield Park just NW of Atlanta. Around 4000 men lost their lives here.
No Trike at the Visitor Center welcome sign. Notice the NO PARKING painted on the pavement by the sign. Park Ranger said they meant it.
We toured the Center. Political Correctness forced them to remove the Confederate Stars & Bars Battle Flag. How's that old saying go... those that forget history are doomed to repeat it...
The older fella inside didn't care for it much either, so in his research he found the Bonnie Blue was also flown over some regiments (Texas) of the Confederate troops, so he ordered some of them for display and sale. :-) I got one to add to the collection.
Not much but a grassy hill outside, but I did spy these two old brass cannons. Unlike those at Fort Barracas, these have not been dis-abled (filled). Good clean barrels and spark holes. First is a short cannon, probably used with shot against troops.
This second one is a similar bore, but much longer barrel for farther shots
We're staying in Commerce, GA tonight, leaving the state tomorrow. We just had to get out of the Atlanta area today. All the stories you've ever heard about Atlanta traffic are true. Lots of crazy drivers and wrecks, lots of sitting in traffic. About the same hours as yesterday, but ended the day with 356 miles.
Thanks for the read, comment & subscribe.
Goodnight
