Excuse the finger in the first pic. I forgot the camera and had to use the i-phone.. I need to learn finger placement.
So... we left around 7.30am, headed for Jacksonville FL and the old Fort Caroline, famous for the slaughter of around 250 protestants by the competing Catholics... way back in the 1600's. Truly a beautiful place.
The park entrance, very pretty drive in:
In t he displays in the Visitor Center, there was this old brass cannon. It still looked serviceable. I bet with a little black powder & shot, we could still make it go boom.
A couple more pics of the grounds, around the Visitor Center parking lot:
From there, it was a rush to make it to the Cumberland Island National Seashore, near St. Mary's, GA. Not a lot in the visitor center (got my stamp & pin) and we wanted to take the trip out to the Island, but alas, only one trip per day in the morning, and it was $28 PER PERSON for the ride. Oh well.... I'll be rich some day...(hahahahahaha)
Obligatory pic of the entrance
We're overnighting in Tifton, Ga, got our bellies full, time for a shower & rest.
Total miles for the day, 474. Headed NW tomorrow...
