In search of Blue Bonnets

On Monday, 3/20 we left with friends to travel to Washington-on-the-Brazos State Park for a picnic lunch with friends from the Austin area, with a stop to see the ruins of the first Baylor Women's University. A beautiful place, the old university columns still stand (tho repaired) as do some building walls. We saw quite a few flowers enroute, but all were in yards or behind fences, so no close looks. But we did get pics of the university & lunch:

On to lunch at the park, we had sandwiches, the Austin-ites bought chicken....

We headed home after a great fellowship with other riders, but we found no flowers that weren't behind a rancher's fence!!

Today, 3/22, more of us got together for a ride to Brenham, and lunch at Nathan's BBQ
http://www.nathansbbq.com  Very tasty brisket and sides of potato salad & slaw. Then, on to the famous Blue Bell Creamery, for ICE CREAM!!  Every flavor imaginable (well, Stan found one not available).

On the way back, Stan & I decided to look again for the infamous state flower. Can you say, Success?? Of yeah, a nice field of the beauties.

Our State flower, the Blue Bonnet

Another flower common to the area, the Indian Paint Brush

And another flower found here, the Pink Lady (Showy Evening Primrose)

Until next time. Comments are open & welcomed.
